I knocked a couple big items off the Daihatsu’s list. Changed the clutch and replaced a cv joint. It became a big debacle since the Daihatsu is so small you have to lower the subframe quite a bit to get the gearbox moved enough.
I had to undo most of the wiring, fuel hoses, steering UJ, suspension etc etc. She’s back together now though and drives much better without the old slipping clutch.

I replaced my leaky power steering reservoir and ruined a good pair of shoes in the process.

Broke one of the compressor wheels and got pulled over. Wasnt all bad though, I learned a bunch about how to improve the turbo oiling system and didn’t receive any tickets.

You had beer and continue to have the love of a woman. I’d agree that’s a win. Broken vehicles and random injuries is like an oppo rite of passage.

Ouch, something get through the filter?

I have some disgusting old clothes and shoes just for wrenching for this reason.

I have those too but I got excited to put the new part in and forgot to change. I then proceeded to accidentally dump used ATF all over my nice work shoes.

I think that the oil pressure dropped while it was spinning, but the wheel shards were sitting in the filter like they were blown out not sucked in(which is lucky that they didnt go through the motor). I need to inspect the filter for any holes. The oil systems feed pump kept turning off so those are gonna be replaced with higher pressure pumps that are continuous duty cycle and can handle higher temps. (I did a poor job picking out the first pumps and didn’t research enough)

She is. An intermittent misfire (which is probably the ancient spark plugs) and a leaky exhaust are the main things to sort. Plugs are getting delivered tomorrow and I’ve sourced a new exhaust. Mechanically she should be sorted very soon.

If the shards were blown out maybe it was compressor surge that stressed the impeller combined with the oil issue?

It’s a shame cars like this have all rusted away here...stupid salty winter roads...

We have car killing salt here too, but luckily this car was very well cared for and annually undersealed. I imagine rust is the reason only 11 including mine are currently registered for the road.

That’s a very good guess, because it did break during an off throttle moment while entering the highway.(shifting) and maybe the wheel was already cracked from contact with the housing.
I just checked and the filter had no holes so it didn’t injest anything foreign.

Shame, but hopefully she’ll be boosting along again shortly.

I imagine we have even more salt than you here considering most winters are more winter-y here in Canada, haha. Oddly, at least here in Nova Scotia, we’ve had a comparatively very mild winter with little snow!
Is undercoating not really a thing there for most people? It’s pretty much a necessity here!
